So, those photos that you took of your trip to the Poconos came out great, right? And, now you want to transfer these to your computer, but you are not sure how to go about it.
There are quite a few ways that you can do this. You can use the Bluetooth option or your phone’s native data-sharing app to transfer the photos.
However, these methods are slow and eat up a lot of battery power and internet bandwidth. Read on to learn how you can transfer photos and videos to your computer.
How to Transfer Images and Videos to the Computer
You just need your charging cable and a functional USB port on your computer to transfer photos and videos. The process might be a little different depending on whether your phone is an Android or an iPhone device.
Transferring the photos and videos – which are normally space-intensive – is easy with the phone charging cable. Also, since you are connected via the charging cable, your phone battery will not drain out fast.
First, turn on your computer and your phone. Connect the small end of the charging cable to your phone. Connect the standard end of the cable to the USB port of your PC or laptop. Once connected, Windows will detect your phone automatically.

You might see a dialog box saying “Allow Access to Your Data”; select “Allow” to continue the transfer process. Click on “Import Photos and Videos” and Windows will start searching for new photos and videos on your phone.
After this, select the specific photos and videos that you want to transfer, or you can “Select All”. Or, you can navigate to the folder where the images are stored on your phone.
These are often in a folder by the name of DCIM, Camera, or Photos. Copy the images and paste these to the desired folder on your computer.

When you connect the phone’s cable to your computer, you may see a prompt on your phone to “Trust This Computer”. Tap on “Trust”.
Check Windows Explorer on your computer; you will now see your phone listed as a device. Locate the DCIM folder in Windows Explorer. Copy and paste the images from your phone to the desired folder on your computer.
Transferring to Your Mac for Android Users
Connect your Android phone to the Mac computer or laptop with a USB cable. Open the Android File Transfer app on your phone.
Navigate to the DCIM or Camera folder. Select the images or videos that you want to transfer. Copy and paste these to your computer under the desired folder.
Transferring to Your Mac for iPhone Users
Connect your iPhone to your Mac by using the charging cable. If your phone prompts you with “Trust This Computer”, select “Trust”. If the Photos app does not start automatically, start it manually.
Look for the Import option; if you do not see it, then click on Import manually. Or, navigate to the phone icon in the sidebar of the Photos app and click on it. You can opt to select the photos that you want to transfer, or opt for “Import All New Photos”.
Both Android and Apple offer online support to guide you through the process. Also, there are a plethora of free apps that can help you transfer your images and videos to your computer.
And, if you just want to send a couple of images, you can simply send these to yourself via an email app on your phone.
